Forever since our last post

Well, its been forever since our last post... Needless to say Owen has kept us CRAZY busy. He's into everything these days. He's a little fish in the water. He started walking about 3 weeks ago. At first it was 2 or 3 steps. Now his long stretches are 18-20 steps. Occaissionally he will just stand up in the middle of the floor and walk rather than crawl. Because he has gotten so mobile, we have noticed two things.

1. He is so mobile that he is tired ALL the time. Please note exhibits 1 thru 3.

2. He needs his own chair that he can kick back and relax in. Since Grandma got him some cars that he seems to love, the Lightning McQueen Chair seemed like the right choice. We think he likes it.

Owen goes swimming

Today was Owen's first swimming lesson. The water was a little cold and he seemed a little unsure when he first got in the water, but once he got used to the temperature he had a blast. For the first lesson we didn't do anything too extreme. It was really just meant to get adjusted to being in the water. Enjoy a few pictures below and check out the photo album for all of the photos. Some of them came out pretty bad because we were out in the middle of the pool and constantly moving. This made it hard for Melinda to get a good shot.

Owen is 6 months old tomorrow!!!

It's hard to believe this little booger is going to be 6 months old tomorrow. It feels like we just brought him home from the hospital a few weeks ago.

Owen PROGRESS!!!

The days are flying are by. Owen is getting big in a hurry. We started him on some real food this weekend. His is 5 1/2 months old this weekend so we felt it was safe to give him some mushed up Banana. We can't tell if he likes it but he eats it. In the last few weeks he has started sitting up on his own (mostly) and is showing signs that he may be crawling soon. The last exciting thing to share is that he may be teething. Well... it's exciting to know teeth are on their way. It's not so nice that his whol sleep pattern seems to be off. Anyway... there are some new photos and a couple of new videos out there... ENJOY!!!

Wow, the time has just flown by. Owen is getting big... in a hurry! We had an eventful Thanksgiving and Christmas. Scott's family came to visit for Thanksgiving, Melinda's Uncle Jim and Aunt Bev stopped by for a short visit just before Christmas, and then Melinda's brother Tom and his family came for the week of Christmas. We had a blast. Check out the pictures below as well as the new Photo Albums.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to ALL!!!

Pre-Halloween Party

Owen went to see his friend Hannah today to celebrate a little pre-Halloween party. I think everyone had a good time. Owen was the little guy in the group, but he'll catch up soon enough.

Webster called - There is a new definition of HOT MOM!

Sleepy Time Expansion

Our neighbor pointed us to this book about getting your baby to sleep 12 hours a night by 12 weeks old. We did some research and discovered the actual title of the book is The Baby Sleep Solution: A Proven Program to Teach Your Baby to Sleep Twelve Hours a Night. We don't necessarily agree with everything in the book, but the results speak for themselves. Normally Owen sleeps in about 3 hours stretches at night. Saturday, Owen slept for almost 5.5 hours. Hopefully this progress continues.

Owen is officially 6 weeks old, this week. We weighed him this morning and throwing out half a pound for diaper and onsie, he came in at 11 lb 5 oz.

The Photo Gallery has also been updated.

So who is this Chaney Barnes anyway...

I get a lot of questions from people about the name of the site and the name of our boy, so I thought I would try to clear it up here for everybody. My wife is a Chaney and I am a Barnes. She hyphenated so, collectively, we are Chaney-Barnes. I bought the domain about 2 years ago before we had our child and rather than purchase Owen-Barnes.com (OwenBarnes.com was taken and I hate domains with hyphens in them), I used the URL that already owned.

We named our son Owen Trenter Barnes. Trenter is the maiden name of my wife's near and dear grandmother who died recently at the ripe old age of 94. Owen was born on August 16th, 2008 at 1:49am. He was 19 inches long by hospital measurement (19.5 according to our pediatrician who saw him 3 days later). He weighed 7 lbs 11oz at birth.

We just took him in for&More...
