As most of my friends know I have been wanting a Macbook or a Macbook pro for about a year now. I wasn't serious about buying one until this summer and was all ready to make the purchase, until I met the "Apple Guy" (Apple Rep) at my Local Best Buy. We had spoke a bunch of times throughout the year and it was a running gag that I was never going to buy anything from him and he was wasting his time talking to me. Well... when I finally came in ready to buy, he pulls me aside and tells me that the rumors on the net were that a new macbook/pro line would be coming out in late July/early August. We pointed me to a couple of great online resources for Mac rumors and news which I have listed over on the left of this page. Anyway, to make a long story short... the date for these new machines has been pushed and pushed and it looks like it's finally about to happen. The latest rumored date for the launch is October 14th. I can't wait.
So far the rumored upgrades have included:
- Upgraded processors (potentially Quad-core in the top of the line mode)
- 16:9 screen sizes - for example the 13 inch macbooks go to 14.1 inch
- All new design - Entire family will be aluminum. Potentially tapered to match the Macbook Air
- Glass Trackpad that should support the iPhone gesture library
- Removal of Firewire 400 leaving only the Firewire 800 port
- Rumors of removing DVI port - some speculate a HDMI port in its place
- Blu-Ray disc player/Dual Layer DVD burner (Blu-ray is not likely)
- More agressive pricing (some speculate only a $100 price drop)
